A product that lives up to its claims.About 2 years ago, I moved into a townhome I had been renting out for several years. I found that the tenants 2 college age boys had moved in (against lease terms) and were chronic smokers (way against lease terms). Luckily, they had locked themselves into the master bedroom and bathroom but did a number on the place above and beyond the deposit over the course of 3 years. The smell was horrific, and a month after painting and replacing carpet, the stench was still terrible. I got a quote from ServPro for about $2700, which I couldn’t afford at the time. I noticed in the quote that they’d be using ozone generators. I was already familiar with the technology behind them, and had used similar technology years before.Unfortunately, they’re illegal in CA as of 2017, because CA knows what’s best for us. Apparently, people can’t read the warnings and would sit in a room with the things running. Or more likely, legislators have invested stock in ServPro and other smoke damage experts who are undoubtedly quite happy about this law. So, I bought the machine, had it shipped to a friend in TX who then forwarded it to me.In a 20x15x10 room, I ran the machine for about 12-14 hours, and then again in the bathroom (the worst) for another 12. It was amazing. It smelled springtime fresh and the odors never came back. The light fixtures were still yellow, but that was an easy fix! Since then, I have lent the machine to realtor friends for pet odors, smokers and general mildew smell in laundry rooms and garages. Let me tell you, cat urine is a category all by itself. In all cases, the machine did its job.Recently, I moved into another vacated property and ran the machine in the garage for a few hours. I had already bug-bombed the place a few weeks previously. There were dead spiders everywhere, and the wet, mildewy smell was gone (apparently the tenants had an aversion to closing windows and doors during rainstorms).Pros:- Oxidizes all organic matter (smoke, mildew, pet dander, pet urine, bugs, mice, etc.)- Compact size- Powerful- Inexpensive- Harmless to foodstuffs etc.Cons:- No filter- No replaceable grid- Only oxidizes organic compounds/matter not chemical caused odors- Illegal in CA and possibly other states- Must vacate area and air out before coming back- Can possibly begin to break down plastics, rubber, foam etc. with overuseIf you’ve got teens active in sports, you don’t have to worry about buying all kinds of odor masking laundry garbage for their room or clothes. Hang their stuff in a garage, sealed closet or laundry room and turn on. Stick it in Jr’s room while he’s at practice. Cat box stinking up the place? Puppy make a mess on the carpet? Clean it then run this baby for a couple of hours. Inherit Uncle Bob’s Plymouth Roadrunner, but he smoked cigars? A lot?!? Stick this box in the car and run for a few hours. Problem solved. Got spiders in the garage? Ants? This thing will make short work of icky bugs. As of 8/7/21, Shawn Wood (on Youtube) who has a show called Moustrap Monday will be testing to see if these either kill mice/rats, or more likely, are such an irritant that it drives them away. I’ll update once he tests this out. So far, he’s eliminated a yellow jacket nest, which is impressive.If there’s a downside (besides potential overuse breaking down plastics) it’s that you need to allot time necessary to use it. That also includes time to air out a room. So you’ll need to plan ahead. Make sure the kids aren’t going to be coming in, and that there’s time to air out (with fan assistance if needed) so people and pets will be safe. Plus, it smells *so* good afterwards! Like after a rainshower/thunderstorm.Are there better machines as far as longevity and design? It appears some are designed for longer use with replaceable parts. They’re also more costly. When I bought this, I wasn’t sure it would work. However, I’d buy the exact same machine again. I’ve used it many times, lent it out many times, and it’s not skipped a beat. Unless I’d need to do a very large space and was pressed for time, I’m not sure what the advantages for a larger machine would be. I’m very happy, and think you will be as well if any of this looks compelling to you. So, recommended? Without hesitation, 5 stars.

Over the last two weeks I’ve been using this on our townhouse prepping it for sale and removing cigarette smells from the last tenant. It does exactly what it’s supposed to do: lots of ozone very quickly in a very small form factor. Whether that ozone is going to do what you hope it does is another matter.The way it works, as I presume all ozone generators work, is by using a conductive grid on a non conductive ceramic plate electrified with a high voltage, creating hundreds if not thousands of tiny purple electric arcs, generating ozone the same way a lightning strike does. It’s beautiful to watch as the combined effect is a uniform sizzling violet glow inside the box. When I first used it, the lower center of the grid was dark (uh-oh I hope that’s not dead) but after three hours of use the whole grid now lights up evenly. I think electricity is cool, but don’t worry, this is not a fire hazard or an electrocution hazard, provided you don’t do something stupid like turn on the natural gas or drop it in a bathtub. The unit does not generate any heat. It does not vibrate. The fan noise is the predominant sound, not the sizzling of electricity.This is my first ozone generator so I am unable to compare this to other brands or models. I have no idea if it actually produces 9000mg of ozone per hour. I have no idea if it’s 50% more productive than the 6000mg version. I don’t know how long it will last. But as far as generating ozone, it does that very well, according to my nose. It generates it like exhaust from a jet turbine.As far as ozone actually eliminating odors, it works… on light odors only. Our tenant was told not to smoke inside but she did anyway because nursing her addiction was too important to her to waste time going outside. She tried to sneak a few cigarettes inside the bathroom with the fan on but there’s no hiding it. Smoking even one cigarette will stain the room with that smell for a long while and it will be obvious to anyone who hasn’t had their sense of smell blasted away by years of smoking. We cleaned the bathroom and painted the walls but it did nothing to reduce the smell. However, one three hour ozone shock treatment, followed by 24 hrs of sealed fan action on the whole bathroom removed all the smoke smell except for the fart fan. Those fan blades apparently accumulated tar because turning it on kicks out a brief puff of cigarette smell before sucking it back up and out the roof, so we tried a second three hour shock treatment just in the toilet room with the door closed and the fart fan on. It helped but still didn’t completely eliminate the fan smell, so we did a third shock treatment before moving on to the basement / whole townhouse (2400 sq/ft). It takes so long for the ozone to dissipate even after airing out the unit with windows open for 24hrs. Ozone just soaks into everything, which is good as it will seek out and destroy, but I would advise against doing ozone treatments if you plan on showing the unit to potential buyers in less than a week; they will totally notice the smell of ozone.So how does three hours of this unit do on an entire three story 2400sqft townhouse? Meh. Ozone is heavier than regular air so it will definitely all sink to the basement. It’s important to have the central fan running continuously. After three hours even the upstairs smelled of ozone but the basement smelled several times more intense. To effectively remove a light cigarette smell from the entire townhouse in one blast is probably not going to happen. Better to isolate individual rooms, but that takes forever with only one generator. The best thing to do is have a ton of fans blowing the ozone up to the ceiling where most smoke rises and condenses. Let the treatment area remain sealed for at least 24 hours while the ozone continues to linger. It sticks around a while so let it do its work. If after all that I’ve done the fart fan in the bathroom still kicks out a brief smell I’m going to disassemble it and spray it with Vamoose, my backup plan.Conclusion: these units are so small, cheap and effective it would be very hard to justify the bigger more expensive models. I don’t know what the actual generation rate is but why care if its 9000mg or 6000mg or even less when you can just run this unit longer, multiple times or, if you’re really in a hurry, buy more than one. The half life of ozone is around 3 days in normal humidity, making the generation rate in only one hour relatively unimportant. Its very effective on light odor stains. Heavy stains are going to require actual surface treatment (Kilz primer, Vamoose) or surface removal (sanding down to the drywall, replacing carpet, etc). Also consider that you’re probably only going to use this thing a couple of times, ever.

My home caught fire and after going through insurance and all the clean up. I was still getting a slight smoke smell in my living room. Before moving back into my home the fire restoration company said they can run the ozone machine again before I move in. They said sometimes you have to run it for multiple days before all the smell goes away. So I checked on Amazon and here seems like a cheap way to handle the smell. Because I didn’t want the smell coming back after I moved back into my home. Well the restoration company ran their ozone machine for 1 day then I had to move back into my home. Then the smell came back after 3 days. So I ran this machine while everyone was at work and school, the only thing is that there is a 2 hour timer on it. So I had to go home every few hours and reset it. That is the only gripe I have about this machine. I ran this machine for 3 consecutive days while everyone was out of the house without any problems whatsoever and it worked! After 3 days there is no more smoke smell and it hasn’t come back. I haven’t used it for the house anymore. My sister did buy a used car and it had an awful smokers smell inside of it. I told her I had this machine that is suppose to get rid of smells so we gave it a try. We kept the car running with all the vents open and the air circulating. It did a pretty good job… It didn’t get rid of all the smell but the majority of it did go away. I told her if we ran the machine in the car a few more times it would probably get rid of the rest of it. But it got rid of most of the smell so she said it was fine so that she could use her car. But after the initial use at my home and my sisters car – I don’t use this machine anymore. I have worked in the flood and fire restoration industry for 8 years, which definitely isn’t my favorite job. My boss does both residential and commercial. For post fire restorations, the smoke smell is usually bad enough that we can’t perform any work without neutralizing the smoke remains with an ozone generator. During this process we seal the area and monitor the ozone levels in the air to make sure we are producing enough ozone to neutralize the square footage we are restoring. Without ozone generators, myself and co-workers risk damaging our lungs from carcinogens in the air.I’ve tried a wide price range of ozone generators from low dollar consumer units with less than 2,000 mg/h use to top dollar commercial units up to 14,000 mg/h units, which work great as well. Our company has actually found good value with the Enerzen units for the price. Some of the features that make these units a better value than others we previously purchased on Amazon are:PROS:1) The ozone output is a consistent 14.3ppm @ 80 cfm = 4,157 mg/h average throughout the entire treatment process. When I monitored the ozone output with meters at job sites, the ozone output fluctuated between 4,100 mg/h and 4,200 mg/h, which is more than it is rated for. Other Amazon units, both different and similar in appearance, couldn’t maintain the steady output needed to properly treat an area and many were weaker than advertised.2) The fan is strong and the heat sinks work well enough that the ozone output doesn’t cut out. We’ve tried open bare units with no cases because they were cheaper for greater ozone output. However, the lack of a fan and heat sinks on these type of units caused the parts to overheat stopping ozone production mid treatment, resulting in us having to retreat the area.3) The internal parts are modular, inexpensive, and available. So far, I’ve had to replace the ozone plates a few times, but we always got close to or exceeded the rated usage hours. Previous Amazon purchases with similar looking units to the Enerzen had a usable time up to several thousand hours less than advertised.4) The units are cheap enough that if anything major goes wrong, we can just replace them rather than repair them similar to printers in our office that say replace the drum unit for $60 when a new printer only costs $90. When our 7,000 and 14,000 mg/h had issues some of the replacement parts were over $150, so it now makes more sense for us to use several Enerzen units to obtain a similar effect.CONS:1) The units start to make louder than normal buzzing noises after 40,000 hours of usage. We have had more expensive units do this after 55,000 hours. The units will continue to work, but can become a nuisance if you are going to use the units within earshot. Pro tip: only use ozone generators in well sealed areas and never occupy the same space or your lungs will regret it very quickly.2) The cord is only 5 feet long. Many higher end 14,000 mg/h units will come with a 12 feet long cord.3) There are no wheels on the base. Many higher end 14,000 mg/h units will come with wheels on the bottom making them more mobile. However, I guess the Enerzen units don’t weigh nearly as much as those larger units.

If you have a short term rental, you need this!This one machine fixes most odors within 1 hour and then about 20 mins aftwards to open windows to air out. This vital if you only have 6 hours between guests to clean and get the space back to original fresh smell.It works every time and I have personally eliminated the follow smells permanently from my properties; smoke *both cigarette and cannabis, cologne, body odor, moth balls, stinky wet dog, fish smells and curry smells from cooking, burnt food, stuffy smell, garbage, fried foods with oil smoke. It doesn’t seem to work on urine (there other products for this). With most of these odors, additional cleaning is needed but the smell is totally gone.Do note enter space while machine is running. Air out for a while before using space.

This is the second ozone generator I have had. This is capable of producing a lot of ozone and did a great job on killing mold and musty smells in our car and in a bedroom.I love that you can set a timer and it will shut off at the end of the time.Things to keep in mind are that ozone is dangerous. Ozone can cause lung damage. You must stay away from the area when it is on. You must flush the area with fresh air afterwards and it really helps if you have a strong fan and can open windows and leave the area. I suggest getting everything set up for venting with a fan hooked to an extension cord leading to a safe area. That way once the ozone is done and you are ready for to flush with fresh air all you have to do is open the windows/doors and plug in the fan and leave.
High Perf –
My neighbors cigarette smoke leaked through a shared wall and stunk up my whole house while I was away. So, enter “the machine”. I fired it up for just ten seconds and observed the exit end while it was running so I could see the “ozone” plate doing its job. Definitely does what the engineers designed it to do. You will notice an odor when it runs but don’t stick around. Get out of the house for a few hours. When you come home, open up your windows and fire up a fan on one end of the house to suck out the O3/ozone air. I used a much weaker model many years ago that was part of a filtered air purifier and it worked when I would leave it running for a few days at a time while I was away. Gets rid of that nasty new carpet odor on modern polyester/synthetic carpeting. I’ll update after I have given the house a good three hours or longer purge while I’m out for the day. Update: 6/27/24 Just two days after the first use of this little “anti-odor weapon” the house had no residual cigarette smell. Repeated the two hour treatment again today, with the HVAC fan running, while I was out and noticed much less O3 effect odor when I entered the house. So, give her time people and this little gadget will do exactly what you expect it to do.

I made the awful mistake of leaving my vehicle’s driver’s side window down overnight during a heavy downpour! The floorboard, dashboard, door card and driver’s seat were completely soaked after the storm. I did the best I could on removing the standing water in the floorboards and drying and airing out the vehicle over several weeks. Fortunately, I didn’t ruin any electrical components or cause permanent damage, but I noticed as the weather began to warm (the storm happened in December) a musty smell lingered from all the moisture.I knew about these as a device many car detailers used for smoke, pet or musty odors in cars they cleaned, so figured I’d give it a shot. I ran the generator for about 45 minutes to an hour 4 or 5 times over about a 3-week period and it eliminated the musty odor completely.I hope no one makes the same stupid mistake I did, but if you need to get rid of extremely stubborn odors like mold, smoke or pets, this will do the job. And it doesn’t just cover or mask odors, the ozone generated binds with the smell-producing molecules and renders them inert.

I bought the ozone generator more to get rid of bugs than to freshen up the rooms of my home. In Hawaii you get all sorts of multi-legged critters who sneak in under the door sills or hitchhike inside boxes from a book sale (silver fish). Clean smelling was a nice bonus. The direction in the manual is totally at odds with directions of people on-line. The manual says a small room can be treated for 15 minutes then left to sit for a couple of hours. On-line people are saying to run the machine 8 hours and stay out for another 4 hours. I opted for 1 hour of treatment and then leaving the room sealed for minimum 4 hours. Seems to have worked, no critters since the treatment. Maybe odor removal has a different standard then insect eradication. The machine immediately starts generating ozone as soon as you turn on the timer so you can smell the ozone. I noticed the smell outside the sealed room and used towels to block the bottom of the door which greatly reduced the smell and I supposed help keep the ozone concentration up when the machine stopped. All-in-all I’m quite happy with the purchase and will be lending it to some friends to use since they’ve heard how well things went for me.
