Let me just start by saying I poured over a ton of reviews of different Dyson models before buying, and on finally deciding on this one (Animal 3), was *hoping* the negative reviews weren’t huge red flags. I’ll get specific with my skepticism in this review as it would’ve helped me when shopping. The listing I purchased from was for Animal 2, Animal 3, and Animal 3 Extra models, and comparing basically ALL reviews for the 3 models, I chose Animal 3 and I’m glad I did.First: the bad reviews stating this vacuum won’t go on thick carpet ALMOST had me convinced not to buy it. Even Dysons site has multiple bad reviews stating the same, more bad than good on their own website! I’m happy to report I have zero issue with this with my shaggy, thick, plush carpets. If it’s on either of the carpet settings it moves just fine. Adjust your vacuum and go.I’d had a ball Dyson in the past, and I didn’t love it. This was another hesitation. The swivel/ball mechanism on my previous one was loose and flowy, but this meant the thing would curve around just when I was trying to push it straight. This Animal 3 does not do that. It’s a bit tighter, it stays straight but is easy to curve when you want.My previous Dyson also toppled over anytime I was tugging at the hose and this one, probably because it’s a little heavier, stays up even when the hose is really extended and being jostled around.PROS: excellent suction, it moves well. I really like how it gets all the way to the edge when you run the side of the vacuum head along the baseboard, not leaving a 1/2 inch gap like my last vacuum. So far I’m really stoked about how the rotating brush clears hair in this Animal 3-we only have one shorthair cat, but I have long hair and so does my daughter, and between the two of us shedding, I’ve done my fair share of cutting the tons of hair that was wrapped around the vacuum beater bar with a utility knife and yanking it out with previous vacuums! So far I have vacuumed my entire house a few times with this Dyson and not a single hair wrapped around the bar in the vacuum head.To my extreme surprise, I LOVE the little stair tool!! Vacuuming carpeted stairs has been the bane of my existence for years (that’s only a slight exaggeration) and this little tool that looks like it should be meant for hard floors does a killer job picking up all the dirt and bits, while fluffing the carpet nicely, including the carpeted edge and the little vertical part under each step where it fits in just right (the wand even swivels at the end of the hose so you can change your angle with ease while vacuuming your steps). Finally, I’m not lifting a heavy upright vacuum in a ridiculous way and hurting my back to make the stairs look nice!! So far I’m very pleased with this vacuum especially considering my hesitation about buying another Dyson after not really liking my old one. If things change, I will definitely update this review. Not many cons to this vacuum…but…CONS: it’s kinda heavy, but not much different than my last vacuum (a Hoover windtunnel) or my previous Dyson. The weight is not a huge issue for me.The plastic parts that seem very breakable are disappointing in such a pricy vacuum. The hooks to wrap the cord look like they could snap, and worse, the thin plastic mechanism that extends down the tank and opens the lower flap to empty it seems very delicate and if that breaks, it could be a real PITA. For several hundred dollars I would hope things would be more durable, but I was aware of this complaint going in—and this is why I give it just below 5 stars. When I have the hose wand out and am putting it back in, it’s a little sticky at the very last part of sliding it back into place at the top of the vacuum. Sometimes it really does NOT want to slide into place, and I have to use a little force. A couple of times it went right in easily. I’m unsure if this is just an issue with my unit or an issue with other Animal 3’s.I don’t like how there’s not a release to tilt the vacuum, and that you must just *crack* the sucker down to tilt it and start vacuuming. However this on Animal 3, that is easier to do and not nearly as harsh of a crack as the Dyson I had before.All in all, I was extremely skeptical buying this vacuum and I’m quite thrilled at how much I like using it and how well it works. Especially vacuuming my stairs, it is really a game changer!

I just got the ball animal 3 today. Havent hit full cleaning mode yet, just playin around with it and trying it out and already I’m excited. (Please note my review would be 5 stars if I were giving same review under longer test period. Its awesome.) My old vac is a dyson, so I know what it should do, and it does it! My old vac just needs love, but even at 20 yrs old, it still works really well. It was just time for a new one.The weight isnt bad but if you’re used to a stick vac, you’ll notice the difference. It feels heavier when you run it however because the suction is THAT GOOD. If you dont have the strength, raise the setting. (Ex. Use high pile setting on low pile carpet, theres a palpable difference, but it still pulled up more dirt than I thought it would!) Also, if you’re not used to the ball style maneuverability (I wasnt) it is an adjustment, and if you have wrist issues you may want to make sure you have a brace until you’re used to it. No, I’m not in pain, nor do I have issues, but I can see where some may have to adjust their vac technique for ergonomic comfort. If you’ve ever owned a dyson you know how easy they are to pull apart and put back together for cleaning, declogging, etc., and just from playing with it, this is still the same great standard. Took me an extra 30 seconds each to assemble the main turbine, and the stick feature (old style stick was a bit different), but still super simple to put together and get started. Didnt even need the picture booklet. I will update IF there is reason to be disappointed after longer use, but wanted to note the bits I wrote on cause I noticed they were of concern in some other reviews, in case it helped. A good vacuum is worth the cost, but it also shouldnt be a pain to work with.

I’ve been a Dyson user for 30+ years. This model is the most powerful. It’s almost a little too powerful as it’s difficult to push at times. Does not push on a bare kitchen floor. The suction is too great.I still love it though.

I had high hopes for this vacuum. Our household consists of two hairy Labradors, three babies/toddlers, and two adults. I literally vacuum everyday (or even twice a day) to keep up with the accumulation of dirt, dust, and hair. What disappoints me of this vacuum, comparing it to the shark I had before, is that first when vacuuming, the stand to angled position is tricky and can sometimes get “stuck”. That is, the way it engages from the bottom suction and then to tube (switching the connector at its base) unfortunately, from this motion, the standing to angled position gets awkward. Some examples like: it takes a few times to align, if any one small tiny random thing gets stuck, you are without a vacuum until it gets fixed. Next would be the floor base itself, the hair will gather at its side if it isn’t directly centered. This is frustrating and, as mentioned, with dog hair the static sticks to the plastic sides so it requires me to manually remove with little success. Next, would be the lack of light. I can’t believe for how expensive this machine is that it doesn’t have one. The handheld Dyson have them and even our shark before had it. This is a must feature, and I’m sorry I didn’t realize it didn’t have it when we purchased.Now, I’ll provide some positives. It has a very good and strong suction/power. It’s certainly a Dyson signature. The filters are easy to clean and easy to remove. Also, I really do love the pet grooming tool. It is such a great and cool gadget that really works to get the dogs’ hair. Our dogs aren’t sensitive to loud noises, but for others you may want to consider this if you have a fur baby that doesn’t enjoy the loud noise. Finally, it is definitely light weight to move around the house.

Love this vacuum! We have a hairy dog! Anyone with a hairy dog knows how challenging it is to keep rugs and cars ‘hair free’. After the first use, I had vacuumed enough hair to make a 2nd dog and we only have carpet in the bedroom, and a big rug in the living room and dining room… we have a Roomba for everyday use (which is great on the wood floors – and it does go over the 3 rugs as well), but, I was shocked at how much hair this vacuum picked up on 3 rugs – enough to make my fur baby a “buddy’!!! The vacuum is very agile and moves around furniture and dog beds easily….. I actually bought this vacuum to use in my Tahoe! The only 2 ‘cons’ are: 1) the vacuum is rather heavy to lift…but being the optimist I am, I figure I am building arm muscle and 2) it is a bit loud (for those with sensitive ears turn up the music or put in ear plugs)…..in my world this is not relevant but for many people they may want to be aware of this. For my Tahoe, I fold down the back seats, set the vacuum up inside the Tahoe and because the handle of the vacuum goes perpendicular down, and the agility of the vacuum, I was able to vacuum the back quite easily and it worked like a champ! It was a bit challenging to get under the seats and in the corners (where dog hair loves to go), but the attachments worked well enough. I pulled out the floor liners and vacuumed them on the ground. There was not 1 dog hair left on the floor liners. With patience and little bit of “elbow grease” I got rid of about 95% of the hair in my Tahoe, which again, anyone with a hairy dog, knows this actually a good %. I have not yet tried the attachment that can actually be used on the Dog but based on how well the vacuum performed in getting my Tahoe “dog hair clean”, I am thinking it will most likely work like a champ (provided I can get him near the vacuum).

I bought this vacuum as the result of very good reviews for pet owners. I replaced a Shark vacuum with this vacuum. As a result, I am comparing pros and cons of these two brands.The Dyson is better for edges on the side of the brush head than the Shark, but worse from the front of the head. Overall maneuverability between the two is comparable. But, if you have tight spaces, the Dyson will switch to the hose too easily, making it more difficult than the Shark.Switching to use the attachments is much more cumbersome with the Dyson, than the Shark. The attachments for the Dyson do not fit snugly to the hose, which results in a significant amount of play. This does not appear to affect the suction performance.When the dirt container is getting full, it does not loose suction performance like the Shark does. The narrow design of the dirt container for the Dyson makes it more difficult to empty. The static charge of this container adds to the difficulty in emptying. But, for the Shark, you have to empty the top and bottom.Static cling of the plastic parts is a problem the Dyson has where the Shark does not. The parts that do not have this issue are the hose, the power cord, and the brush roller. Every other part has accumulated dust and a lot of hair from the static. Considering that this model is specifically designed for pet owners, this is a pretty major failure. The brush roller does not accumulate hair and does not have a static charge, but the brush head holding the roller does. I am baffled on how this was missed in product testing.Overall, I cannot recommend either the Dyson or the Shark over each other. The Shark has good longevity. It lasted for ten years. Only time will tell if the Dyson has good longevity.

I love Dyson vacuums. I have a German Shepherd (shedder) and a Tabby Cat which means I’m constantly fighting hair balls and fly-aways. Honestly, I use 3 vacuums in my home to maintain a clean floor without hair all over people who come to visit. This vacuum is the strongest suction I have ever felt on a vacuum. I have vacuumed with the other Dyson (V15 Cordless) which I love too, but right behind running this one, the Animal 3 found more hair and fibers and deep dirt or sandy like particles in the rug. I was amazed to see the bin after going over the carpet. I can’t say enough good things about this Dyson…it’s a great value for the money and cleans better than any vacuum I’ve ever used.

This thing is unequaled in its ability to pull pet fur (and dirt) from carpet. Absolutely incredible suction and the self cleaning brushes actually work. That said the build quality is junk everywhere besides the business end. The handle is not strong enough for this machine’s weight and suction power. You will break it maneuvering in deep carpet unless you use two hands. The hose really really doesn’t want to extend and it kinks when I try to use attachments on stairs. The vacuum will chase after you if you try to extend the hose.Also the small rotary brush attachment is incredible at pulling fur off cloth couches and pillows.Overall I will keep this think because it does things no vacuum I’ve tried can but there are some major swings and misses.
