10 reviews for roborock S8 Robot Vacuum and Mop Cleaner

Let me start by saying I have purchased no less than 5 robot vacuums over the years and every single one led to disappointment in their operation, performance, and/or features. So my expectations weren’t the highest, but I was hoping the S7 was worth the hefty price and wouldn’t be a another dud.The Roborock S7 was by far the most expensive robot vacuum I’ve ever purchased. I never went over $350.00 with my previous robot buys. But after reading reviews and specs of the S7 and comparing it to countless other vacuums for months and debating with myself about buying the S7, I felt I had researched enough and went ahead and gave it a go. Wow! I am so glad I decided on this particular robot vacuum!**************The vacuum:The suction is great and the carpet boost really helps pick up dog hair from my three large dogs that are constantly shedding around the house and on the living room rug they like to sleep on. It’s actually pretty unbelievable how well it picks up dog hair and dust/dirt off my rugs, tile, and hardwood flooring that the dogs bring in all day. I love how it is able to get under my beds, most furniture and two couches. I neglect those areas pretty frequently, so it’s nice to not worry about dog hair and dust piling up under them. The S7 is amazing when it comes to vacuuming. It is seriously efficient, you can see where and what room the robot is in via the app and the progress it is making, and they battery life while running is fantastic. Speaking of the app, It is wonderful and easy to use – I love how you can send the robot to vacuum different rooms or certain spots in the house as well as the number of times you want it to pass over the selected room/area.The no go areas and invisible wall functions work perfectly. I’ve had no issues at all setting them up and the S7 recognizes them every time.I’ve had no issues with the robot getting hung up or stuck on something while running. It’s the first robot I’ve had that didn’t need full time babysitting while it was vacuuming. The navigation and mapping of my house are both exceptional. It still runs into certain things but is able to recognize and move around the object. As soon as it has finished cleaning, the S7 will return to the base and empty itself in its bin (if you purchased the auto empty base) and start charging itself.—— Vacuum CONs:As far as my personal observations go, I can only note one con and that’s with the bags for the the auto empty dock. I wish the bags were washable and reusable. I get that the current bags are sealed and keep the dust/debris inside the bag and out of the air and off the floors, but a reusable bag would be great for some buyers who try to keep unnecessary waste to a minimum. For some, the sealed bags wouldn’t be an issue at all and could possibly be a pro. But for me, it’s a small annoyance.**************The mop:I love that you don’t have to switch out attachments between mopping and vacuuming. The S7 can mop and vacuum at the same time, which is so convenient.Mop CONS:—— You can only use water in the mop tank, which I know some buyers didn’t like because it doesn’t sanitize the floors at all. My work around is using electrolyzed water, which is as effective as bleach at killing germs. Google force of nature cleaner if you want to use water in the mop to sanitize. I’ve had no issues using electrolyzed water and it makes the house smell clean and deodorized.—— without a doubt you will still need to mop your house. The S7 is great for in-between mopping days. When it rains, my dogs track mud in onto my tile floors. The mop function isn’t going to get the mud up well enough. It will get some up, but not enough to be satisfied with the result. But it does great for very light mopping jobs and mopping under most furniture so you don’t need to move things around to mop underneath.***************Bottom Line:Seriously, I can not recommend the Roborock S7 enough. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. While it was the priciest robot vacuum I’ve ever purchased by a long shot, I’m so glad that, for me at least, it was worth getting over the price sticker shock. It performs fantastic when it comes to vacuuming and the mop function is great for light mopping between good old fashioned bucket and mop cleanings. The S7 gets a rating of 4.7/5 from me. It exceeded my expectations by a miles!

I have two German Shepard dogs and a cat. This robot vacuum is hands down the best vacuum I’ve purchased for dog hair. You can look at my floors and it truly feels like I don’t have two long haired dogs that shed profusely. I run the vacuum everyday. The most I have to do is empty the tray and refill the mop solution daily. Literally takes 5 minutes out of my day and my floors look amazing. The mapping features are excellent and the ability to configure no-go zones makes it easy to avoid the vacuum getting jammed. If you don’t have shedding dogs you might not have to empty daily. I don’t have the self-emptying bin only because I wasn’t sure how successful it would be with emptying the long dog hair. When I empty the tray daily, it’s literally filled to the brim with hair. It just shows how much my dogs shed and how much work this robot truly does for me and my sanity because I am a clean freak. I love this vacuum. The app automatically lets you know when and what areas to service on the vacuum. Also replacement parts are easy to order and if there is a jam (I have kids who leave things everywhere) it’s super easy and user friendly to take apart and put back together. I’ve had to order new rollers because of my kids toys getting jammed and damaging the rubber in the rollers. But other than that I feel like the normal wear and tear is reasonable and the replacement parts decently priced. I’ve been using this vacuum daily for almost a year now and it is still running great. Keep up with minimal routine maintenance and this will be an investment to your daily cleaning routine. As for cleaning solution I use a self-diluted solution of Mr. Clean Multi-Surface Cleaner and it works great and hasn’t clogged the tubing at all. Highly recommend!

I rarely write product reviews. But this one really impressed me. I had 2 robot vacuum cleaners over the past few years before S7. The first one was bought several years ago. It was just running around randomly and couldn’t even find its base sometimes. So it was never used after the first month. The second one was bought last year. It was ok for regular rectangular areas. But it could skip some parts and clean others twice if the area is large or irregular. I had to spend lots of time babysitting it.I wasn”t quite convinced by all the positive reviews of Roborock but decided to give it a try because we really needed one. It totally surprised me. Its routing algorithm is not fancy but very effective. No matter how large and irregular the area is, it can cover them once and only once (with a little overlap sometimes) by following a simple rule. Its route is quite predictable. From the app, you can see clearly where it has vacuumed or vacuumed and mopped. It draws very accurate maps and it’s easy to manage rooms and no-go zones. Its mopping capability is not perfect. It’s definitely not comparable to scrapping with hands. But it’s close enough to casual mopping. Usually I just let it mop first, then take care of a few tough spots with hands. It’s much more time efficient than mopping the whole house myself. Our white stone kitchen floor looks a lot cleaner after S7 came because it can be mopped everyday now.All other features worked well too, like cliff sensors, detecting carpet automatically and lifting mop cloth, etc. It could climb the more than half-inch thick mats in our gym without any problem. Now I finally enjoy an truly intelligent robot vacuum cleaner that can save lots of time and effort. But my first S7 did have some problem. It encountered “Bumper Stuck” error often while there was nothing stuck in the bumper. I contacted Amazon customer service and exchanged for a new one. That problem hasn’t happened with the new one yet. I guess there was some quality issue with the first one. But it was easy to get help from customer service to exchange.

LIDAR:I personally prefer LIDAR to SLAM or other camera systems. Robo-vacumms with cameras are nice, but they need light to work. I feel it’s better for privacy, and the vacuum can function at night or in any environment without a light source.Navigation:For one, in my opinion, S7 has one of the best navigation software and hardware. I have various models from other brands including iRobot and this robot is the most effective on time and coverage. The rubber Roll:The implementation of a new rubber roller with a modular cage. Roborock was doing a great job minimizing hair or fur tangles, but now it really feels like one of the best. The new modular design maximizes a seal on hardwood floor, which gets more dirt with less power and passes.Cleaning pattern:The crisscross cleaning pattern is great. Not sure why it’s not the standard or why it wasn’t applied in earlier versions, but this cleaning pattern does make a difference with the vacuuming and the mopping.Doing 2 or more passes was nice, but this crisscross works! It picks up small debris flung or disturbed by the side brush during the first pass. The Mop:The vibrating mop works!! It eliminates spot or stains that other combo-robovacs or dedicated robomops cannot BUT it doesn’t work as advertised or implied, i.e. as a stand-alone unit. But When the mop-cloth is MANUALLY soaked, it will perform as long as it remains saturated with water…Carpet Auto-Detect:Auto rise works, but not relevant for medium lengths pile or loose rugs/carpets.The good news is the detection works very well, so use this avoids those areas if you have a wet mop or if the side brush gets tangled.I will address my carpet issues in the CON section.Automation:You can schedule the Roborock for specific rooms, or power settings, and times. But again there were promises made that still need to be fulfilled – see my CON list.CONS:Most important con for some:This vacuum is THE BEST for wooden or other flat surface without carpet or rugs. If your home has a lot of carpets or rugs, you should seriously consider an alternative option. I have a favorite for carpets and rugs, but back to the S7:Because of the feed and brush design, I would NOT recommend this robot for homes that have mostly rugs or carpets. This RoboVacum performs best with wooden floors or other surfaces where is can establish a suction seal. The second most problematic issue:The mopping features do not work as advertised. It’s a gift and a curse.Let me explain: The gift – The vibrating technology is great!! When wet, the mopping works! BUT, the mop-cloth must be MANUALLY soaked for best results. Do not expect to fill the tank and for the mop to work for multiple days or until empty. It will get the job in small or medium-sized rooms, but large rooms will need human assistance, you’ll have to re-soak the mop-cloth because the water tank does essentially nothing.Tank water flow into the mop-cloth consists of ONE drip every few feet. It’s not an even distribution or spread on the mop-cloth. This can be easily seen if you have a dry mop-cloth; if you run it dry with the cloth you will easily see the single wet point, for those who do not have a Roborock S7 see this video to see what water distribution looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXm2nc6dDS8The mop will not work when damp or dry.So this is NOT a system you can fill the water tank, sit it on the dock and assume the mopping will work – IT WON’T! The Mopping REQUIRES manual assistance. Still, it’s better than any combo-robovacums and most mopping (including Roombas and Braavas imo). The new Braava just streaks imo.Automation needs software updates to provide promised feature:It was advertised as a Roborock that will be able to perform multiple passes from the Schedule-Menu. This is not true. If you want your Roborock S7 to perform multiple passes in some or all rooms, YOU will have to do so manually in the app. This is not something that can be done via the Schedule-Menu as of 2022-03-22.Bin design is SMALL: if you have the auto-empty base it will not matter, but if you buy this as a stand-alone unit you will notice the need to empty it. Also, the design is not ideal – it could have been easier, not a huge issue but still an issue when the vacuum runs multiple times a day.Still, with all these cons, this is still one of the best in the premium robovac category.I sincerely hope Roborock works on the scheduling updates and that in the future Roborock models they work on the water tanks and even water distribution. Until then I’ll have to wet the mop-cloth right before each mopping job.

I purchased this vacuum in the hopes of not having to vacuum and mop all the time due to my hectic schedule. I used to have two different Roomba’s years ago and I didn’t particularly care for them after a while because it was more of a hassle to prepare to run the vacuum because you had to robot proof your house prior to running. A friend of mine had one of these and I was like wow your floors are like always ridiculously clean like not one spec of dust or dirt. She introduced me to the S8, of course I had to do my own research with watching 500 test videos, review, blogs, etc. The end of the day I ended up purchasing one on June 20th so it’s been about 3 weeks. The vacuum and mop are absolutely incredible! I read in one of the blogs to make sure your house is clean the first time you run it so you start off on a clean slate. I spent 2 hours manually vacuuming and mopping my floors prior to running it. I was so confident that it wouldn’t pick anything up and the mop pad would be clean. WRONG! the ENTIRE vacuum bin was full of dust and hair and the mop pad was black. I was MORTIFIED! How in the world could I have been spending so much time, breaking my back thinking my floors were emaculate. Then I buy this and it totally made a mockery out of my cleaning. Long story short, this machine is absolutely incredible, the technology is far above its competitors, along with the App. Not sure how they achieved this but it certainly paid off. The reason why the mopping is so much better than a human doing it is because the pad vibrates at something like 3000x a min and no human mops like that. Same with the vacuum it goes over it methodically at a speed you normally do not do. I run her every 2-3 days and my floors look brand new. I will say I have all tile in my house and some high pile rugs and she (her name is Dorothy), you can name her in the app, has no issues with going on and off those. I also have a dog that will sometimes decide to stand in her way and she will politely go around my dog and then come back once she notices she is gone to finish cleaning that spot. 5 stars from me, and I highly recommend it.

If I could give this negative 5 stars, I would. Roborock is an outright scam, and I hope you see this before you ever buy one. I spent $700+ on a vacuum/mop combo and it broke in 14 days. Amazon replaced it with a new one, which then broke in 40ish days. “Lidar error”, you should google that to see how common a problem this is with them. Amazon, wouldn’t replace or return because it was outside of the 30 day window. Amazon was helpful in getting me in touch with the vendor, who immediately refused to talk to me unless I spoke with them outside of Amazon. They offered for me to ship it to them at my cost to have it repaired by them or they would ship me the piece to fix it for free. I asked for a refund at this point as my device was less than 60 days old and had broken twice already. They blocked the email where I asked for a refund. So I reworded the email and sent it again, which they blocked. I tried several more times, reducing the word count of the email just assuming that some random word was being mistranslated, until my last attempt that literally just said “Refund, please?”, which was also blocked by them. At that point realizing what type of company I was dealing with, I simply asked for the piece to be shipped to me. I replaced the piece as instructed and although the vacuum cleaner did work now, it was noticeably affected by the change. Before the install, it took the vacuum cleaner two trips to do my entire house, but after it took almost 3 full trips. It got stuck in multiple places that it hadn’t gotten stuck in previously. Shelfs, rugs, bed liners, cabinets, doors, hallways that were handled just fine before the piece installation, now were problems that it would regularly get stuck in. Before the lidar error “fix” I had a fully functioning vacuum/mop combo that worked. After, I had a device that would work 2 out of 5 times I attempted. Outside of the things I’ve mentioned already, it also would randomly do what I called “random drunk robot vacuum” once or so a week, where it would completely ignore or forget the saved maps and just drive around aimlessly, not doing anything of any value at all, until the battery died and then it wouldn’t return to the base so it would just die in a random spot of your house and you would have to find it later. Then 6 months after the initial purchase the device developed “error 4 cliff sensor error”, which you should also google to see how common that is. This time they didn’t even offer to ship a free piece, just simply, pay to ship it to them and maybe they’ll fix it. I paid to ship it and they came back and said that it had water damage and they wouldn’t fix it. I never poured water on it, so this must be a malfunction of the mop water portion of the unit. They did offer to scrap it for me, or a discount on another unit of theirs, as if I will ever pay a single penny for another product of theirs. I paid almost $800 for this unit and less than 7 months later, I don’t have a useable unit.

Quick update now having it for a few weeks. The customizable room settings is an awesome feature. Just want a deep clean mop in the kitchen but still do a full vacuum of the dinning room all on the same schedule works like a champ. The battery life has also not been an issue as I had feared it still seems to burn more than my S5 but it’s getting the job done in one go and it’s mopping. It is so nice to have a mopped floor every day in the heavy travelled areas of the house. The reduction of dust and pollen is impressive.Great vacuum I have no complaints!!Got the robot in on Saturday, I was upgrading from an S5 regular (non-max). Got it all set up and my wife wanted me to hide it in the laundry room rather than out in the main part of the house. It did its initial sweep (pun intended) on the balanced vacuum only setting and while it wasn’t fully charged it got about 2/3rrd of the house done, (approx 2500 sq feet) then it went back and charged and then a few hours later it popped out to complete the job. The charging seemed to be rather slower than I anticipated and the burn on the battery seemed a bit faster than my old S5, I am still gonna watch it.On Sunday I tested out the Mop and I was really impressed. Make sure you have the carpet setting to Rise in the settings otherwise it will just mop on your carpet. The pad pulls up enough for most my rugs in the house, it still might slightly touch but its not actively engaging the mopping function so it doesn’t leave really any water behind. Certainly less than a kid coming in from the pool or when exiting a shower not yet fully dried. It also isn’t lingering over a spot as it moves so I don’t know how much of a issue this might be. Your mileage might very but if the carpet is close I would test it out.Today is Monday and first day of scheduled cleanings, first thing in the morning I filled up the water basin (I am using distilled water, just don’t want any small particulates to get into the water system) and got the pad wet. Then opened the door (remember its hidden away in the laundry room).PROS:- Great suction, seems to get at least everything my S5 got- Rubber brush with removable ends, I live with 3 women with long hair and its very easy to pop off the ends and remove the twined hair.- Mopping and scrubbing so far is really cleaning up the floor. I bet with daily runs the floor will just stay in great shape.- Lifting the Mop means no more extra prepping or trying to zone out a room away from the carpet just for one mop cycle, also the map shows the detect carpet so no more guessing based on the map and the items in the room.- Pending the auto empty bin, this might be a game changer!CONS (might seem nitpicky but for future buyers):- Battery life, not sure yet, it does stop to charge then auto resume so not that big of a deal, but we will see- No auto empty bin yet and unknown cost.Possible future CONS (cause I am gonna be THAT guy):- No extra pads or brushes in the box so with daily mopping how long is this pad gonna last?- curious about popping off the ends on the rubber brush to remove hair, will those lose some hold strength on the 20th remove the 10th the 100th? remains to be seen. That is about it, I am sure there will be an S7 Max with a Camera in the not to distant future, but I am not a fan of the camera action on the bots, I do like the lidar mapping and I think this is a great robot.Definite Buy if your upgrading from a S5 or if you want that combo Vacuum/Mop functionality in one pass with carpet.

I’ve owned probably 8 or so different robotic vacuums/mops over the years (Samsung, Bissell, Roomba, Scooba). This one is definitely the best so far, but still has some room for improvement. It is well made with lots of small details that really tells me this company took time with engineering. The mapping is really good and the app interface works well and is very user friendly. I wish the unit came with at least one additional mop pad. I’m also eagerly waiting for replacement parts to become available (I don’t need them yet but a replacement filter, brush, and mop pads should be readily available). Battery life is pretty good. Overall I’m pleased with my purchase.**Update** The week before Thanksgiving (approx 7 months after purchase) the mop stopped getting wet. I discovered that the small nipple on the robot that goes into the water tank was broken. I reached out to Roborock hoping to get a replacment part. They said they do not sell the part and I’d need to ship the robot for repairs and provided an address to ship to. Shipping UPS ground was almost $50. They are currently working on the vacuum but it has not been a simple resolution as apparently mine is missing a small plastic piece. I will update once the service is complete.**Update – service was completed and I was provided with either a new or a refurbished unit (looks brand new). I was like a kid Christmas morning opening the box. It was wonderful! I can’t believe how much I missed my Roborock. I fully charged it, linked it to my phone, and it was soon happily cleaning my floors. I also went ahead and ordered the auto-empty dock, which arrives tomorrow. I wasn’t going to get it since it seemed like a waste of money since I have to “service” the vacuum between each charge anyways (new mop and refill water), but it keeps dust from being released when emptying the bin into the garbage so I’m going to give it a try to reduce household allergens (seems like a lost cause with 3 dogs, lol). Will update on the additional dock once I use it for a bit.

I am extremely disappointed in the newer Roborock vacuums. I have an S5 and I LOVE it. It is a work horse. But I wanted to get another vacuum and have bought TWO different Roborock model vacuums in the last 2 months and neither have impressed me.For this S8 I am extremely disappointed that the NO MOP zone acts like a no-go zone. Why did this matter to me? The first time I vacuumed (vacuum only), the mop pad seemed to drag on the area rugs even when it is “lifted”, again this is just in vacuum mode only. The mop pad picked up some hair and debris from the area rugs just in vacuum mode, so the pad isn’t lifted very high. I have area rugs in the kitchen, mats by 2 doors and a large 8′ round rug under the table. So, I set the no mop zone in the hopes that it would stop the water from coming out while vacuuming the area rugs, but the vacuum just doesn’t go there at all! It treats the no mop zone like a no-go zone. It did vacuum and mop (not great) in all the areas that did not have a no mop zone. Yes, it says the vacuum automatically lifts the mop pad when it detects carpet, but I didn’t try that since I thought a no mop zone should work. This isn’t a horrible issue as I currently have to set up my S5 to mop separately. My S5 vacuums everywhere on set schedules, even in the No Mop zones! On days I want it to mop, I put the microfiber mop pad on the vacuum and tell it to mop the kitchen and it mops everywhere except the No Mop zones. Very logical! If I am going to pay this much money it should do what it says it is going to do, mop in the mop areas and vacuum in vacuum areas (lifting the pad and stopping the water). So, this vacuum is not worth the cost for me.NEGATIVES: As mentioned above, the no mop zone is useless. I am not sure the duo roller rubber brushes work great. I only used this a couple of times, but I think my S5 does a much better job on all tile, hardwood, and area rugs. To note: I have a small female Husky and this S8 didn’t seem to get all of the dog hair out of area rugs, but my S5 does! And this S8 left behind a few pieces of dirt on the tile (little dried rice size pieces of dirt off of shoes, not stuck to the floor). I also felt that the navigation is a little clunky as it would not go by a baby gate floor post that was about 1.5 feet away from the RIGHT SIDE of the vacuum. The post was not even in front of the vacuum and the gate was wide open in front of it. It stopped, thought about it and then turned around to go around the table in another direction. Also, the obstacle avoidance is weird. It mapped table legs and different furniture items as obstacles. There weren’t any obstacles like shoes, toys, wires, etc. It even marked my love seat leg as a “pet” issue. I attached a picture of the map.None of these are really big issues as there are workarounds, etc., If the tech stuff isn’t working well why pay for it. At this price point I wanted this S8 to work better than my old, cheaper S5 and it doesn’t.The POSITIVES: set up is easy and the map and app are nice and easy to use. It’s pretty quiet. I can’t say much for the other features because I just want a vacuum that will vacuum and occasionally mop.If you want a tech gadget for fun, this might be for you, it has lots of “features”, but I am not sure how well they work LOL! If you want something that can vacuum and mop where you want it to with minimal assistance from you, this might not be for you.PS I read other’s reviews talking about the no mop zone issue and honestly, I just thought they didn’t know how to use the app LOL! So, be aware of this issue if you are considering this for that feature.I am now looking at other robot vacuum brands. 🙁

This is the second one that I bought after using it for 5 months. Like its human friendly designs for each little tiny thing – the easiness to install or uninstall the dust collector, water container and mop holder. Set up and wifi connection is so easy. My favorite part is the smart technologies – the LiDAR navigation, the mature mapping feature, the choices between Vac & Mop and the functions of rooms vs. zones. My whole family loves it. That’s the reason I bought one more for my parents. Absolutely worth the money!
