We had previously owned a “Pet Vacuum” and it just didn’t go a good job. So when it was time to replace our old one I did my due diligence and searched the internet for the best one I could afford. I read both good and bad reviews to get a feel for what people are saying about a product. A Dyson was out of the question due to price, so I was after the best value. Some of the negative comments regarded the fact that the Kenmore Elite was not self-propelled, it was somewhat heavy, the height adjustment wasn’t automatic and the hose was too short. BUT, it worked very well. After looking over other brands and options, I bought the Kenmore Elite Upright 31150.I was not disappointed! Yes, you have to manually adjust the height. No big deal. I need to do that once when I vacuum as we have shorter nap rugs in one area of our home. I then start in that area the next time. It is not self-propelled, but that’s okay because if you have the height adjusted correctly, it will gently pull itself forward. Most of us need more physical activity anyway! I know I do. The hose is short-ish, but works for most of what I need to do with it and there is a wand for extra reach. The wand extends nicely. There are a couple of handy attachments as well, especially the mini-brush that spins using the force of the suction. We have three cats, one of which is a long hair who leaves piles of fine hair everywhere and the Elite has no trouble getting those out of our short nap carpet.Suction power is outstanding and when using attachments actually needs to be managed with the airflow gate on the hose. Maneuverability is fine, but because it isn’t propelled by anything other than the spinning brush, it does take a little more effort than a self-propelled model. It is not “light weight”, but I don’t care about that. Like I mentioned, I like the physical aspect of using the machine.Regarding comments that said the brushes wear out; What are these folks doing to make that happen??? Even when I have the height set lower than it should be (which you should realize immediately as the vacuum wants to pull fairly hard) I still cannot imagine wearing the brush out that fast. We’ve had this vacuum for some time and I’ve very happy with it.A blue light on the nose of the machine lights up when you activate the brush then goes out after about 5 seconds. It will come on again when you go over an area with extra debris. My wife thinks it’s a gimmick, but I like it because it will make me go over that area slowly until the light extinguishes, ensuring it’s clean. This is typically where the felines favorite resting spots are, or near the entries to the house or around the fireplace. The LED “headlights” work great as well and really light up dark areas under furniture or in corners. The vacuum does have a bag which I much prefer over the canister type vacuums as all dust, hair and dander is contained. There are also exhaust air filters. All of these work beautifully.I don’t have any Cons on this one; I love it and would by it again.

Impressed after first use. Vacuumed main living area that I had recently vacuumed with my 12-year-old Hoover WindTunnel. The new vacuum picked up a significant amount of extra dust and fuss out of the carpet. Extension wand worked very well on the stairs. I like that the suction tip has its own spot to stay on the vacuum away from being able to have the extension wand off. Some people complained that it’s heavy. I would say it weighs about as much as every other vacuum of its type and size that I’ve used. You’re not going to get as much power for the suction and the brushes from lighter vacuums. I’ve got three sets of stairs and four levels to my house. No trouble moving the vacuum from one level to the other or being able to reach all 10 steps with the extension wand attached to the flexible hose while the vacuum is parked at the bottom step.

This cleaner is very effective on carpets and even wood because you can turn the beater roller bars off, but it is heavy. It has strong suction. I don’t see how you would do steps with it, unless you can find a longer hose for it. I like the lights that let you see in dark areas and the dirt indicator which isn’t very sensitive. Once you turn it on, the roller bar helps drive the sweeper backwards and forwards, so it is relatively easy to manipulate. It does work without stiring up any visible dust. It has a long cord, but it is not retractable. I bought it for wall to wall carpet and it is very good for that.

In 2008 my husband and I purchased a Kenmore Upright Vacuum Cleaner. It worked very well and we didn’t need to take it in for very many repairs. This year (2023) it reached its retirement age.I researched various vacuums for features, product reviews, complaints, and prices. I also subscribe to a magazine the tests and reviews products and does not accept any advertising, and put together a spreadsheet to help me make a decision.I chose the Kenmore Elite because it satisfies my needs. When it arrived the box was intact (very important to me). Inside, the ends of both the top and the bottom were securely held in place by heavy-duty styrofoam and each of the attachments was separately wrapped in plastic. A kudo for this product, practically everything inside is recyclable!!! Our cats also enjoy playing in it.The owner’s manual is right on top so it can be read before removing the entire item from the box.The assembly was a snap. The only tool required is a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw from the bottom element, attach the top, and screw them together. The top and bottom were easy to join and fit together very snugly. The screw is long and that gave me confidence that the vacuum won’t fall apart with use.The height adjuster has five settings: “high” and “med high” for bare floors, “I” for medium pile carpeting and “med lo” and “lo” for carpets. I checked it out and could see the suction head going up and down and the brushes “retracting”. The “lo” setting can also be used on bare floors. There are two bright headlights that make it easy to see what you are vacuuming, and a dirt sensor that lights up to let you know if you’re catching everything. The total length of the power cord is 40 feet long (from the outside of the vacuum to the plug), of which the first two feet is the distance from the outside of the vacuum cleaner to the floor. That’s long enough to clean our great room and part of the back bedroom without having to move the plug from place to place. It has three attachments that fit on the vacuum when they’re not in use: a long crevice tool, a combination brush and the “Pet Handimate”. The first attachment is pretty obvious. The combination brush has a removable brush for cleaning drapes, and stairs (bare and carpeted). The Handimate is 5.5 inches long and 4.25 inches wide and has two sets of revolving brushes. Also included is a telescopic wand that is 17 inches long and can be extended to 26 inches. The wand also has notches every 3/4 of an inch so that if you don’t need the whole length you can choose your length and the button will snap securely into place. The hose is 22 inches long and has a suction control on it.The Elite also has performance/safety features: a thermal protector for the suction motor; a thermal protector for the agitator (brush) motors; a by-pass valve that protects motor overheating and damage; and an agitator overload protector should the agitator slow down or stops because of a jam.It also contains an exhaust filter in the back and the dust bag is in the front. Both are easily reachable and changing the bag and filter take no time at all. I change mine every couple of months because we have two cats. Replacement filters and dust bags can be purchased from the manufacturer but there are less expensive alternatives available from other websites. There’s also a Help Line that is available Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m (EST).I tried in on our inside front door mat (the bristly kind) and it worked liked a dream. In just a few minutes it removed everything. I did have to go back and forth a few times in a couple of places but that’s to be expected on something that traps dirt from the outside. It’s very quiet and very light and using the well-placed and well-designed carrying make it simple to be carried up or down the stairs.I very highly recommend the Kenmore Elite Vacuum Cleaner and encourage everyone who is considering a vacuum replacement to choose this one. If you have an old Kenmore the attachments may fit on this new one (one less thing to buy). One thing that I would recommend is to find an “exploded” view that lists the parts and their names (but no part number), in the event that you may need to replace something beyond the attachments, filters and dust bags.

I am amazed by the suction and all of the pet hair it picked up. Our Dyson’s motor stopped working after a year. We spent $400 on that thing. We were surprised how much better this vacuum cleans!!! The person at the vacuum repair store said never to buy another stick vacuum due to the large amount that comes in to be fixed. Consumer Reports also warns consumers to not buy them. I agree that you can purchase a much higher quality and save money. The cord length is long. It’s easy to assemble. We’re extremely excited with this purchase.

PRO’s——-After purchasing the much smaller 2024 Kenmore Intuition upright vacuum, I was so impressed with its powerful suction that I got this Kenmore Elite model. The Elite has a triple motor, is beltless and performs like a Cadillac of all upright vacuums! It is heavy and in a good, solid way. This is a quality, heavy duty vacuum and one that would be great for cleaning much larger, open spaces and/or an entire home.CON’s——-I only have 1 room carpeted or 1/4 of my 400 sq ft living space, with a thicker pile, and I soon found this vacuum performs much better on carpeting vs. hardware or bare flooring. Personally, I need a vacuum that will accommodate my 75% of bare flooring and much smaller spaces, with lots of nooks and crannies to get into. There is a bare floor setting and so the brush bar stops spinning, but unfortunately it would not stop moving as the vacuum rolled back and forth, when powered both on and completely off. The brush is powerful and this will damage the bare flooring, which also defeats the feature to stop the brush bar from spinning. Maybe it was a flaw with just this one I received? I did not see other reviews mentioning it.

Yes, this vacuum was rated highly by Consumer Reports, and although the suction motor is powerful, this item was a horrible purchase. Do not buy this model.1) The vacuum falls over very easily. From a mild tug on the hose, the machine will tip over and smack on the floor. When you’re trying to clean, you must pay constant attention to the position of the vacuum, how it’s facing and how the hose is pulling on it. Even with care, expect to have it fall over several times every time you clean.2) It is very fragile. Within a few months, the hose mount broke, the extension tubes stopped fitting properly into the hose, and the hose itself creased causing interference with cleaning operation.3) I purchased this item new on August 1 2022. Today July 20 2024, less than 2 years after purchase, the motor completely failed.I will now throw this piece of garbage away and buy a good-quality vacuum instead.

This was the number one rated vacuum on consumer reports. It picks SO well!!! I just got it and still have to read about using the attachments. It has a very long cord, which I like. My only complaint is that it is a bit heavy

**Initially a 4 star vacuum; a year later and it is sadly now a 2 star vacuum in my book. Reasons in the EDIT below!Initial review:Phenomenal vacuum for anyone with carpeting and pets! I’ve owned a Dyson, Bissel, and several Hoover uprights in the past; while they were all fantastic vacuums, the Kenmore Elite is easily the best vacuum I’ve ever owned. I have 2 cats that shed all year long, so I vacuum our bedrooms (carpeted) on average 3-4 times a week. The amount of stuff this vacuum manages to pick up is just incredibe; my carpets look, and more importantly, actually *feel* clean once I’m finished vacuuming. Unlike some of my other uprights in the past, this vacuum picks up just about everything on the first pass. Its suction is so strong that it even picks things up from a distance (without actually needing to roll over the area), which is great for vacuuming in corners or close to the wall. Works great on hardwood floors as well, even with the rollers on. For picking up gritty substances on hardwood (crumbs, cat litter, other “sand like” things), it works best with the rollers off; these things do tend to “bounce” if the rollers are on! Rollers automatically shut off when the vacuum is in its upright position.Yes, it’s heavy, and yes, it’s loud, but so are majority of other upright vacuums on the market. The weight doesn’t really affect its maneuverability while vacuuming, but can be an issue if you need to carry it up a flight of stairs regularly. Make sure you check the weight if this is something you’re concerned about. In terms of noise, it’s certainly loud enough that it’s difficult to carry on a conversation with someone while using it (without yelling), but it’s not so loud that it leaves your ears ringing once you turn it off lol. I’d say size, weight, ’maneuverability, and sound are about the same as every Hoover Wind Tunnel I’ve owned. One major flaw design—the hose. Where it connects to the vacuum is placed such that when you stretch the hose more than a few inches without physically holding onto the vacuum, it loses its balance and falls over. This is a huge flaw for anyone that likes to dust/clean with the attachments. It’s nearly impossible to use the hose without holding the vacuum, which basically negates having a long hose to begin with (initially a pro in my mind when choosing this vacuum). This design flaw makes this vacuum a poor (and potentially dangerous) choice for anyone that plans to use it on carpeted stairs. The hose diameter is also slightly smaller than most other uprights, making it so that practically all “universal” attachments aren’t compatible with the hose (without an adapter). Highly recommend purchasing a 32mm to 35mm adapter if you’d like to use additional dusting attachments (separate from those included with the vacuum); I found this adapter to work with majority of “universal” attachments available on Amazon!TL;DR If you’re looking for a quiet or lightweight vacuum, keep looking! This thing is heavy and loud (not much more than most other uprights, though!). It’s size and weight allow for its suction power; it’s an incredible vacuum for anyone with pets or allergies. Works extremely well on carpet and rugs, but does a great job on hardwood floors as well. Rollers automatically shut off when the vacuum is in its upright position. One major flaw (and the reason for the missing star)—stretching the hose more than a few inches without holding the vacuum will cause the vacuum to fall over. Not a deal breaker for me, but it does prevent this vacuum from getting a 5 star rating! Hose diameter will NOT fit most generic dusting attachments; purchase a 32mm to 35 mm adapter if you’re planning to order additional attachments!Edit:It pains me to change my initial 4 star rating to a 2 star rating, because this vacuum is truly a power house. The reason for the drastically lower rating? The direct drive roller brush/beater bar. This version uses a self-propelled roller brush that is directly powered by the vacuum without the use of a traditional belt. This is fantastic until you need to replace the brush. Traditional brush rollers powered by a belt typically aren’t that expensive or difficult to replace, however I’ve never personally needed to replace the brush rollers on my upright vacuums in the past––with regular untangling / upkeep, the bristles are usually still in great condition by the time the vacuum motor gives out. After only a year of use, I noticed that the vacuum was no longer making carpet lines as I vacuumed. Not inherently an issue, but moreso just something I noticed and shrugged off. It still seemed to suck up all of the visible hair and debris off my carpet, but I noticed after a few weeks that my carpeting looked (and felt) less fluffy than normal. I decided to check and see if the roller needed to be cleaned, and to my surprise, I found that basically ALL of the bristles were gone. Literally like 95% of the bristles were missing from the brush roller lol. They had all deteriorated at the root of the bristle, leaving behind just a tiny prickly patch where they attached to the beater bar. Since I didn’t use this vacuum any differently than I did my previous uprights, I was a little confused how they wore out so quickly. Not a big deal though, since I figured it couldn’t cost more than $20-30 to replace. Well, that is the case for vacuums that utilize a belt, but not the case for beltless vacuums that require a special kind of brush roller. ***A brush roller replacement for the 31150 model is currently $320*** LOL…THIS IS MORE THAN THE COST OF THE VACUUM!I decided to look through the reviews and saw a few others who complained about the same issue. I removed 2 additional stars from my initial review––1 for the poor longevity of the bristles on the brush roller, and 1 for the cost of the replacement. I could probably deal with one of these issues alone (can you tell I otherwise LOVED this vacuum?), but having both of these issues combined is an absolute dealbreaker for repurchasing the 31150. No one should have to purchase a $300 vacuum each year, and a quality vacuum certainly shouldn’t require $300 in maintenance fees each year either. After some research, I have since purchased the 31140 (blue) version of this vacuum, and it is every bit as powerful as the 31150, but with a belt powered brush roller. The 31140 version also does not include the light up dirt sensor. The suction, weight, and sound of the vacuum are all equal to that of the 31150, and the flaw in the hose location is still an issue with the 31140. Luckily though, replacement parts are much cheaper for the 31140––the belt is ~$5-8 and the brush roller can be found for just under $30.TL;DR Unless the bristle quality issue is addressed in the future, DO NOT purchase the 31150. The brush roller does not last more than a year, and costs $300 to replace. Purchase the 31140 version instead, which uses a belt powered roller. Every bit as powerful but with an affordable brush roller replacement available for ~$30!

Great suction but assembly instructions could be better. Still have not been able to seat top hose on fitting that joins bottom hose. It would take the strength of Hercules to push it over the male connection to seat it properly. Have called help line but no help yet as rep said she needed to get with techs. Saw one assembly on UTube and he had same issue but said he would get back to it and never did. Vac will run and really like it but two hoses have not come together properly. Anybody else have this problem? I tried small amount of silicon grease and did not help. Waiting to hear back from Kennmore help line. Sent pictures in to Kennmore and they saw problem. Guess have to return and try again if solution from KH.Follow up: Help was no,help. Finally found close up 3d picture of vaccum and could clearly see hose connection. Manufactures or sellers 3d. Clearly the hose was seated about where zimhave been able to push it. Presumably designed not to seat all the way. Suggest they redesign that connection. Most consumers I bet are looking for the “click”. Or at least tell us in the instructions no click. That said we like the vaccum very much and plan on buying another for upstairs in a couple of weeks if everthing still operating at same level.
